Season 2
Power Struggle

The proposed 1000 megawatt coal fired power plant in remote Lamu county of northern Kenya may negatively affect the environment. Yet despite the danger emissions will pose to people, mangroves and water quality along this pristine coastline, the plant is moving quickly through the approval process. Local residents, who are dependent on fishing and tourism, are worried about the impact of the plant on their scenic and ancient town. They’ve organized a Save Lamu campaign to stop what will be the largest emitter of CO2 gasses in Kenya.
